Research interests: 

Ittai Bar-Siman-Tov is an Assistant Professor at Bar Ilan University Faculty of Law. Before joining Bar Ilan's Law Faculty, he was an Associate-in-Law at Columbia Law School. He has previously served as a senior law clerk for Justice Dorit Beinisch at the Supreme Court of Israel, and as research assistant to Professor Menahem Elon, former deputy Chief-Justice of the Supreme Court of Israel. Dr. Bar-Siman-Tov obtained his J.S.D. and LL.M. from Columbia Law School, where he was a James Kent Scholar, Fulbright Scholar, Fischman Scholar, and Morris Fellow. He received his LL.B., magna cum laude, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

His scholarship has been published in major American law reviews, such as Georgetown Law Journal, Boston University Law Review, and William and Mary Law Review, in leading international peer-reviewed journals, such as Legisprudence and Regulation and Governance, as well as in Israeli peer-reviewed journals and  in collective-volumes. He was the guest editor of the special issue on "Mending the Legislative Process" for The Theory and Practice of Legislation vol. 3(3) (December 2015). His scholarship received multiple awards (including, inter alia, the Giandomenico Majone Prize, awarded by the European Consortium for Political Research’s Standing Group on Regulatory Governance; the Gorney Prize for Outstanding Research in Public Law, awarded by the Israeli Association of Public Law; and the Cheshin Prize for Academic Excellence in Law) and research grants (including, inter alia, from the Israel Science Foundation). Dr. Bar-Siman-Tov was also named one of the Most Inspiring Professors in Israel by The National Union of Israeli Students, and was awarded the University Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Bar-Siman-Tov's research interests include: Constitutional law; constitutional theory; legislation; legisprudence (legislation theory); the legislative process; judicial review (and models of judicial review); the impact of judicial review on legislative behavior; content-analysis of legislative debate; quantitative, qualitative and computer-based content-analysis methods; constitutional remedies; and the interaction of law and time (temporal effects of judicial decisions; temporary legislation).
