Short Biography

Sivan Shlomo-Agon is a Professor of Law at Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Law. Her research and teaching lie at the intersection of public international law, international economic law, international organizations and global governance, international courts and adjudication, and international legal theory, drawing on doctrinal, theoretical, and empirical methods. Her research examines questions of time and international law—its reactivity and proactivity, its short- and long-term horizons, and its capacity to keep pace with accelerating change, including across emerging frontiers such as artificial intelligence and outer space. She also studies the effectiveness and legitimacy of international courts and organizations, as well as the authority and contestation of international law and institutions, including through the use of computational methods.

Prof. Shlomo-Agon is the author of International Adjudication on Trial: The Effectiveness of the WTO Dispute Settlement System (Oxford University Press), which examines the effectiveness of international adjudication through the lens of the World Trade Organization’s dispute settlement system. Her scholarship has appeared in leading academic journals, including the American Journal of International Law, Modern Law Review, European Journal of International Law, Leiden Journal of International Law, Global Constitutionalism, University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law, UC Irvine Law Review, University of Toronto Law Journal, Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, and World Trade Review.

Her scholarship has been recognized with numerous awards and fellowships, including the Fattal Prize for Excellence in Legal Research, the S.Z. Cheshin Young Scholar Prize, the ICON-S-IL Prize, a Fulbright Scholarship, the Fulbright Alumni Prize, the Jean Monnet Scholarship, and the Sarah Wolf Foundation Award. She has been an Emile Noël Fellow at New York University and has held visiting positions at the University of Zurich, the Technical University of Munich, the University of Graz, Université Toulouse 1 Capitole, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the University of Oslo, and the World Trade Organization. She holds a PhD in Law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, an LLM from Northwestern University, and an LLM and LLB from Tel Aviv University.
