Application and Admission Process

Eligibility

Applicants (Israeli and non-Israeli citizens) should hold or be entitled to an undergraduate/BA or graduate/Masters degree, or currently be enrolled in an undergraduate program (close to completion of their degree by the beginning of the Summer Program). Degrees and studies are acceptable from all the social sciences, the liberal arts or the humanities.

The basic admission requirement is at least an 80 average in the candidate's degree program to date. Recognizing that standards and grading systems vary from country to country, our Admissions Committee will examine each request on an individual basis.

Applicants should be proficient in English.

 

Tuition

Total tuition for the full program (8 credits, 4 courses) is $2,720. In addition there is a non-refundable 100$ application fee. 

The tuition covers only the courses, full day study tours and extracurricular activities. It does not cover other expenses, such as health insurance, living costs, housing and flights. See below various available scholarships and convenient housing possibilities near BIU.  

 

Registration

Students will receive a university issued transcript listing courses and grades upon completion of course requirements.

Registration for the 2018 Summer Program is now open and is on a rolling basis. Early registration is recommended to guarantee a place in the program (space is limited), to obtain a visa (where necessary), to secure places in a more affordable housing (e.g., the Givat Shmuel Yeshiva). The registration closes on May 31st, 2018.  

 

Required documents - Applicants should submit the following documents:

1.    A completed online application form, including the names and contact information of two academics/professionals who can be asked for letters of recommendation (English only; if you encounter difficulties with the form, try using Google Chrome browser).

2.    A letter explaining their interest in the Program (English/Hebrew).

3.    Copies of BA/undergraduate or Masters/graduate diplomas, or transcripts for current undergraduate students who are close to completion of their studies by the beginning of the Summer Program (English/Hebrew, if in another language please add a translation into English).

4.    CV or resume (English/Hebrew).

5.    Copy of Israeli ID (Teudat Zehut) or of the first page of passport (for non-Israelis).

6.    Proof of payment of the registration fee (see here).

7.    CHE Scholarship for Indian and Chinese Students: Full Scholarship for Outstanding Candidates from China and India.

Under a Unique Israeli National Council for Higher education Sponsorship, Excellent Advanced Students from China and India will receive a scholarship covering full tuition costs for the program, including housing.

Scholarships for excellent students from China and India

    Israeli national Council for Higher Education special grant for Chinese and Indian students – This grant (with an additional support from Bar-Ilan University), designated for (at least BA/undergraduate) advanced students from China and India, from all fields of study, covers full tuition for the program and accommodation near Bar-Ilan university's campus.  

    

Miscellaneous

     Visa - Before applying, please determine whether you need a visa to enter Israel, in order to calculate the timing of submitting your application. Many nationalities do not need a visa to enter Israel, but if you do need a visa, it is advisable to apply early. If you encounter delays or problems in obtaining a visa, please contact us.

     Flight ticket – We recommend purchasing a flight ticket to Israel only after accepting a final notice of acceptance to the Program and a final notification that the program will operate.

     Letters of recommendation – It is our policy to solicit letters of recommendation (when we find the need to do that) directly from the two academics/professionals whose names will be listed by you in the application form. We ask you to refrain from sending recommendation letters with your application.

     Refund policy - Cancellation of participation made by May 31, 2018, 90% refund. Cancellations after this date will not be refunded

 

Note: Tuition paid to Bar-Ilan University through Pay Pal or other forms of bank transfers are subject to fees and commissions that are beyond the control of the university. The amount of any refund made will be based on the actual tuition fee received by the university (after deduction of the transfer fees) and the bank fees incurred in issuing the refund.
