Dr. Levi Cooper

Levi Cooper, originally from Melbourne, Australia, is a Senior Lecturer in Bar-Ilan University’s Faculty of Law. He completed his doctorate in law with a focus on the interface between Hasidism and Jewish law. After his doctoral studies, he held postdoctoral positions at the University of Oxford and the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Frankfurt. His research centers on legal history and explores the interplays between Jewish legal writing and broader legal, intellectual, and cultural contexts. Levi Cooper is also a long-time faculty member at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem.
