Dr. Ayelet Sela

Dr. Ayelet Sela is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and Head of the Law Data & AI Lab at Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Law. She is also a member of BIU’s Data Science and AI Institute (DSAI), and a non-resident Fellow at Stanford Law School’s Rhode Center on the Legal Profession. Sela’s scholarship examines how justice systems can use digitalization, AI tools and procedural innovation to enhance dispute system design, access to justice and procedural justice, especially in the context of self-represented litigants in courts. Sela also explores how the legal profession evolves as AI becomes integrated in legal work and considers how professional regulation and legal education should respond to these changes. As Head of the BIU Law, Data and AI Lab, Sela advances coordinated research and teaching initiatives at the interface of law and technology, including legal responses to technological innovation and application of AI tools in legal research.

Dr. Sela is the recipient of multiple research grants and academic awards, and her work has been published in leading journals. She holds a JSD and JSM from Stanford Law School, where she was previously a Fellow in the Gould Negotiation and Dispute Resolution Center and the Codex Center for Legal Informatics. She earned her LL.B and “Amirim” Interdisciplinary Honors Program Diploma from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Prior to joining Academia, Dr. Sela clerked for the Honorable Justice Eliezer Rivlin in the Israeli Supreme Court and worked in the Israeli Ministry of Justice.
